I'm Off to AlterCOP 30 Australia - Riding for Climate, Country and Hope

Panniers packed. Bike oiled. Heart full.

This weekend I begin my next big #eBike4Australia journey. I’m riding more than 2,400 kilometres from Canberra to Brisbane and back. For AlterCOP 30 Australia, where as Guest of Honour on Day One, I'll be speaking on A First Nations Vision for Caring for Country in 2050.

For years I sat inside the so-called “real” COPs drafting paragraphs, negotiating commas, and watching ambition shrink in the shadow of politics and fossil-fuelled profits. But AlterCOP feels different. It’s people-powered, grounded in truth-telling, justice and hope, and free for everyone - online or in person.

Along the way, I’ll be meeting Sydney’s Lord Mayor and Allegra Spender MP in Sydney and I hope to catch up with Dr Sophie Scamps as I ride through the Northern Beaches. During my journey, I’ll be yarning with communities, independents, mayors and media - gathering stories of Australians choosing courage over complacency.

No planes. No petrol. Just my e-bike, the open road, some good playlists, and a belief that hope is a verb. Every turn of my pedals will be a reminder that we can live differently - that climate action starts with how we move, eat, vote, and care for Country.

Over four days in Brisbane, AlterCOP will explore climate justice, decarbonisation, circular economies, energy transition, and community resilience - and everyone’s invited.

Hi from Belém where I’m travelling with Anne Poelina (lucky me!). Anne will bring her West Kimberley country into hearts and minds of the many gathering here, alongside Amazon leaders whose stories frame this somehow different-feeling COP.

Greg are you cycling through the Gold Coast or stopping - in which case so many would love to greet/host you. Happy to connect from here if you’d like! Xx
