Meet Noor: #SchoolGirlUnderBombs

I made Noor because I couldn’t stomach the weasel words Australia uses when it backs Trump and Israel’s military action in the Middle East: “We support it.” “We’re not involved.” “We can’t comment on the law.” Meanwhile, schoolgirls and other innocent civilians are dying under the bombs.

And let’s be honest: “support” isn't neutral. It's political cover. It's permission. It's complicity dressed up as diplomacy.

Noor is a simple prompt: a schoolgirl with a single book. She challenges the institutions and people who shape, defend and normalise Australia’s foreign policy. She asks one question: how far away do children have to be before our “support” stops feeling like complicity?

Noor has already appeared at Parliament House and the National Gallery of Australia, plus a few other locations around Canberra. Next she’s heading to my local MP David Smith’s office, and to ACT Senator Katy Gallagher’s office. But she wants to travel further.

If you’d like Noor in your town, I can make and send you a hand-made Noor poster. Take her to your local MP’s office, a minister’s office, an embassy or consulate, a weapons contractor, an Apple Store, or any place where power is exercised or where people will see her.

Photograph her. Post her. Let her be seen. Tag #SchoolGirlUnderBombs and @LyrebirdDream.

Email me at gregory.andrews@lyrebirddreaming.com and I’ll send you the details, including how you can make a small contribution towards printing and postage costs.

Let’s help Noor go viral: national and international.
