Once extinct on mainland Australia due to feral cats and foxes, the Eastern Bettong is now thriving right on the edge of Canberra at Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary. Thanks to a visionary rewilding program, they've been brought back from Tasmania.

These little marsupials are members of the macropod family. That means they're cousins of kangaroos and wallabies - but they’ve got a twist: a prehensile tail that they use like a monkey to carry nesting materials!

This clip shows a bettong at Mulligans Flat gathering grasses to build its cosy nest. Bettongs' return to the mainland is more than just cute - it’s crucial. As ecosystem engineers, Eastern Bettongs help regenerate soil and spread native fungi through their digging and foraging - their favourite food is truffles.

Bringing them back restores balance to the landscape.

Let’s keep the momentum going:

šŸ’š Donate to Mulligans Flat to support species recovery;

🌳 Visit the Sanctuary and see these little cuties for yourself if you're in the Canberra region. It's free!

Together, we can keep bringing Country back to life.

This is crucial work with so much of our flora and fauna under threat from clearing and inadequate protection and an inability for authorities to see the value of our environment.
